Daydream TV is a contemporary dance theatre solo which explores identity and belonging through Neil’s love of the series Neighbours. Having grown up alongside the show, he often imagined himself within its world. Neil weaves together autobiography and fiction as he brings to life his own personal tale alongside that of Joseph Robinson, a Neighbours character who he has invented.
He and Joseph are opposites yet intertwined. As Neil embodies them both, reality and imagination begin to blur and our perception of the person who stands before us is challenged – whose story are we watching anyway? Each of the character’s worlds are illuminated by projection, and the piece brings together autobiographical and fictional narration, physical theatre and contemporary dance choreography.
The research and development for Daydream TV began with a residency at The Work Room, where Neil began collaborating with performance collective 21Common. Daydream TV is also supported by Imaginate, and will continue to be developed for a performance at their children’s festival in June 2026. It is Neil’s first solo self-led project - written, choreographed, directed and performed by himself.
This performance will include an artist led Q&A, in which audiences are invited to share their experience of the piece in order to support the work’s future development.
