Access Key
Throughout the website you will see the acronyms BSL, (BSL), V, S, AP and CC. These identify key access information about the work and what access provisions are available for each show.
BSL | British Sign Language
Performances marked BSL will be interpreted by Hearing British Sign Language interpreters. On each show page it will list who the interpreter is. We aim for these performances to be visible to all audience members, and where possible as integrated into the performance.
(BSL) | BSL Slots Available
Performances marked (BSL) are predominantly durational performances or one-on-one performances that contain minimal or sections of spoken language & sound. These performances will have dedicated slots with BSL interpretation available. Please ensure that you book the slots accordingly.
V | Highly Visual
Projects with this tag are highly visual and contain minimal or no text. This also refers to performances that predominantly incorporate dance and movement.
S | Sound Based
Projects with this tag refers to performances that predominantly incorporate sound and musical experiences.
AP | Audience Participation
Projects with this tag include active audience participation.
Audience participation is optional. Seating will be reserved specifically for audiences who wish to spectate and not participate. A dedicated ‘no participation’ zone will be created so look out for them, or ask a member of staff for help.
Please note that some performances may require participants to travel across multiple venues.
CC | Captioned
Projects marked CC will have live or pre-recorded captions in English. These captions will express all text spoken
Content Notes
We have included 'Content Notes' on the individual show pages.
These will highlight if the project includes reference to potentially upsetting materials including; sexual violence, graphic violence, emotional abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, miscarriage, terminated pregnancy, alcohol or substance addiction.
They will let you know if a show involves audience participation and if this is opptional or an essential part of the experience. As well as alerting audiences to potentially overstimulating content, such as strobing light, haze, strong odors, and, where applicable flavours, or physical sensations.
We appreciate this list is not comprehensive and encourage you get in touch if there is a particular subject matter not listed you wish to avoid.
Mask Wearing
We encourage mask-wearing in busy-spaces; including when the bar gets crowded and in enclosed performance spaces. We will have disposable N95 masks available at each venue.
Quiet Spaces
Buzzcut’s dedicated quiet space can be found in Tramway’s Learning Centre on L1.
The quiet space is created for those who require an area dedicated to no or low noise and minimal stimuli. The space is intended for rest and regulation rather than socialising, so extended conversations and group gatherings are discouraged.
In this space, festival attendees are asked to keep voices low or refrain from speaking where possible, set phones to silent, and use headphones for any audio. Do note that sound from the surrounding environment will bleed into the quiet space.
Festival attendees can anticipate the following provisions to support accessibility and sensory regulation:
A maintained uncluttered space with clear signage and an easy-to-navigate layout;
Comfortable seating options from chairs to floor cushions, beanbags and yoga mats;
Soft dimmable lighting using lamps;
Safer distancing maintained between each seating area;
Noise-cancelling headphones;
Disposable earplugs;
Minimal visual stimulation;
Stim toys and fidget tools;
