Art Fighting Fascism - Strategies for a Democratic Sector in a Time of Rightwing Resurgence

In recent years the international political context has shifted dramatically, introducing new challenges and difficulty to cooperation at all levels. In Hungary and Italy, right–wing governments impose cultural and aesthetic agendas; German and UK governments silence solidarity with Palestine; and in Scotland, radical Queer art is attacked and censored.

Is the performing arts sector facing this as it should? Are we satisfied with ourselves?

BUZZCUT is delighted to host a panel discussion and Q&A curated by MoonSlide. Art Fighting Fascism will explore how the performing arts sector is responding to our ongoing moment of crisis – considering what we can learn and how we can move forward. MooonSlide presents both local and international case studies with a focus on workers rights, artists rights, collaboration, accessibility, inclusion, and cross sector solidarity.

To spark these conversations they will be joined by:

  • Suzi Cunningham, lead-artist of MoonSlide, welcome and introduction

  • Angela Adams-Gray, Director of Articulation - welcome and introduction

  • Lucy Medlycott, director of ISACS (IRE) Ireland sector advocacy in early 2000 and ISACS’s recent International experiences and success, and how this growth changed the political power of the sector

  • Simone Stewart, Arts and Heritage Manager of Govanhill Bath Community Trust Civil Art and activism

Panel:

  • Nicola Lawton, artist, producer and Chair of Articulation

  • Ramesh Meyyappn, theatre maker / director / actor

  • Leonor Lola Estrada, artist and activist

  • Emma Jayne Park, artist and activist
