Shawn Nayar (he/they) is a multi-disciplinary artist who weaves physical, digital, and performative mediums into collaborative erotic inquiries. His work investigates the fetishisation and sexualisation of the body, enacting complex expressions of sensuality through the embodiment of a performative persona. This persona carries the visual culture of Nayar’s Indian heritage alongside notions of the abject that are intimately connected to his queerness. These traits are characterised in his choreography as grotesque hedonistic convulsions that undulate against sensual and demure lulls; a fight for dominance which drives the performance forward. 

Shawn Nayar was one of three artists who received support through Glasgow BUZZCUT’s Club Residency Programme, in partnership with HEALTHY, Shoot Your Shot, and Bonjour Glasgow. Through February - March 2023 Nayar will perform across these nights developing a new performance which will debut at the festival’s closing party!

Performance will conceptually interweave sexual pleasure and violence. So the performance may have themes of sex, sexual violence, body horror. My choreography will be suggestive of these themes but not emulate them literally.
